About Us

One person can't make a difference… right?

Until recently, the only option for homeowners looking to power their homes with renewable energy was to install expensive solar panels on the roof, or a not quite as expensive wind turbine that may upset the neighbors or run afould of zoning ordinaces or community restrictions – a big cost many of us aren't able to pay along with headaches many of us aren't equiped to handle. And, if you live in an apartment or condominium its simply impossible to provide your own renewable energy.

Today, The Foundation For Responsible Technology (FFRT) provides homeowners with the option to purchase renewable energy from solar arrays and wind farms nearby without the hassle or upfront cost – just an extra $175 per year can supply enough renewable energy to supply the average household in the United States from guaranteed clean renewable energy sources. (Less for smaller than average and more for larger than average houses) Even better, FFRT can show you how to get a 100% tax write-off for your investment in renewable energy by taking advantage of the FFRT program. So, for a small amount over and above what you pay for your utilities now, you can be asured that the energy you are receiving is coming from renewable sources and you can do this at a fraction of the cost of installing your own solar or wind energy systems, plus get a tax deduction. For a more detailed explanation of how it works, click this link or the "How RECs Works" link in the left column.

How does it work?

Renewable energy generators issue a certificate for every unit of electricity they produce, called a renewable energy certificate (REC). By law, in most states, utilities are required to purchase RECs for a certain percentage of the electricity they sell. FFRT purchases these RECs away from the utilities on your behalf, forcing utilities and others to invest in even more renewable energy projects, in order to comply with their obligations.

FFRT enables households to offset their fossil fuel based energy with renewable energy through the existing electricity grid with the purchase of RECs. Going beyond that, FFRT helps ordinary people to enjoy the benefits of clean renewable energy without the costs and hassle of engineering their own system, even if you live in an apartment or condominium. Even better, by using the foundation to purchase RECs to offset your energy use, you can enjoy a tax write-off of 100% of the cost in most cases, which is better than a mere 30% tax incentive for investing in qualifying renewable energy equipment. These programs reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and foreign oil while making meaningful contributions to to the environment.

Am I "Carbon Neutral"?

Yes, by purchasing energy produced exclusively from solar arrays and wind farms, your electricity will be carbon neutral. In addition, your purchasing of RECs helps reduce America's dependence on imported fuels, reduces smog and acid rain, and supports the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. your carbon footprint.

Where does my money go?

A large part of the money goes directly to owners of wind and solar energy producers – without this second source of income, many of these projects would not have been built. In addition to reducing your carbon footprint, by purchasing renewable energy, you will help to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil and fossil fuels in general, minimize smog, acid rain, and nuclear waste, and support the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

The remaining money goes to FFRT to continue to expand and bring more people into our "responsible technology" community. If you participate in FFRT's renewables development programs your money can also come back to you through tax benefits for your donations and the reduced costs for energy from renewable sources that your donations helped to make possible. After all, the price of sunshine, wind, and other renewable sources does not increase over time.
